Book Review

Life must have been hard for kids like Maniac Magee, since they had no real homes. After Maniac ran away from his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan on pages 6-7, he had nowhere to go. As you might think, it would be a sad hard life...for some kids who don't run much. But for Maniac, his life was an adventure that would take him to places he (probably) never thought he would go to. For example, he ran all the way to East End, which was when he met the Beale family on page 41. Their house in East End became Maniac's first address. After a while, he got discouraged by the citizens of East End such as Mars Bar Thompson on pages 61-63, so Maniac ran away from East End slept in a baseball room...and that was when he found his second address on pages 79-81. Maniac wasn't alone, he met an old man named Grayson. Their friendship lasted all through Thanksgiving and Christmas, until Grayson died. Because of the grief that Maniac had, he ran away again. But this time, he slept in a military cabin and was found by Russell and Piper McNab. Maniac Magee found his third home in the West End, and stayed with the McNab family. But in the end, like any homeless person would ever want, Maniac found his real home with the Beale family. As I have said before, life must have been hard for kids like Maniac Magee. But, to Maniac, his life was an adventure.

Character Post 3

The character I chose this time was Piper and Russell McNab. They were introduced when they found Maniac lying in one of the military cabins (this happened after Grayson just died). Maniac was a good benefit to Russell and Piper because he bribed them with pizza if they went to school for two weeks. To Maniac, they are just like Hester and Lester in a way. Russell and Piper look up to Maniac as their master or older brother, and because of Maniac, they both got a better education.
